Complete and utter noob

Postby Bovine » Mon Jan 22, 2018 11:21 am

Good morning, I have taken up a small Primaris startup ('Know no Fear' + Chaplain) for fun.
I'm not really in to playing but more the construction and painting side.
Please forgive my potentially stupid questions and shocking first attempts!

Welcome :)

Enjoy and good luck, I am sure you will find the help you need here. Also is always good to find a local gmaing club that you can visit to chat, get advise and ideas...

Thank you!

It has been interesting figuring out the basics, which brush to use etc. Will need to go back and re-paint my first marines!

Those don't look too bad but quite hard to tell with the lighting. There is alot out there on light boxes if you want to get a little fancy or otherwise try and improve the light quality when you take photos to try and get a better result, particularly with shadows over the majority of the model. Makes it kind of difficult to really see want you have accomplished.

From what I can see its looking decent though...

Skilled painting 101,Ultrmarines: prime (black for darker shades of blue or prime blue for lighter tone of blue) then, base colour blue...then shaded ...then base colour reapplied ...then edge highlight....DONE

pro painted....well...its got a alot of blending drybrushing and time, so dont asked me

Thanks guys, I am trying to get it done properly.

Have tried dry brushing and layering but am settling on a combination of the two. Dry brushing worked well for me on the large dreadnought but not as a final solution on the marines.

Also tried some natural light to take pictures as the flash just washes out any detail. Will upload more pics.

This I finished this week, very happy with him:

These two were my first. A bit rough round the edges so they will need to be re-touched

Where did you source the sculls?

You should check out Threeplus sometime.

We are currently running a slow grow for a bunch of new guys. Some are just using it to get stuff painted and show off what they're doing.

Thanks, went on Saturday. Was a steep learning curve but got much further along. And also hints and helpfulness all around :)
