State of WM/H in SA

Postby Domestos » Mon Jan 30, 2017 3:57 pm

Hi there, I live in a slightly more secluded part of the country and dont get to shops where they game often. I do however have a fairly large collection of WM/H stuff. After the launch of MkIII it seems that the gaming numbers took a bit of a knock if the international webpages are an indication. Have you guys seen a similar trend in SA or how is the local WM/H scene in your area?

Gauteng seems to have a had resurgence in popularity, it was dying off towards the end of mk2. I only know of 1 player who has semi quit but then he suffers from "oooh new system, shiny" syndrome quite badly

Yea it's going strong in Gauteng I think although there is lots of room to grow. Not sure about the other places

that feeling when I read this and I know exactly who are you talking about.

But no, in reality we had 3/4 people who quit or no longer played for other reasons. The userbase did shrink considerably unfortunately.

We have a bit of game flood recently, too much new things on the market and you know people like new shiny things. We will see who is left and then we will count ourselves. I think the base of "hardcore" players is quite hard to die.

Thanks for the replies. Its sad to hear that Privateer lost some ground after MKIII dropped but as long as there are a couple of hardcore bulldog gamers that keep the wheels turning, there should be some interest and potential to grow the numbers in the future. And hopefully as MKIII matures with the faction books, themes etc. it will draw some of the people that have armies back into the fold. I just hope PP handles the future releases well...

I think it's up and down with some people entering and some leaving. Tournament attendance in jhb has been up year on year but it's still small. What I saw at the start of mk3 was some people come out of retirement to play. Truthfully the numbers overall in jhb are small so I'm hoping this year we get more traction
