I didn't see much about terrain placement rules/suggestions in the rulebook. Is this correct?

Also, the terrain rules in game seem a bit... hollow. Howcome you can't use the buildings?

Ok, placement, it really is just place it how you like. You can use the old warhammer way of placing it. Terrain is a fundamental part of the game though. Too little terrain will eliminate the tactics which the movement phase feeds from. We tend to use about 10-12 pieces on a 6'x4' table.

Buildings, yes you can use them. When we use them, we say at the start whether they can be garrisoned or not. Then the unit which charges the building (with the unit in) we say suffers a Hindered Charge (-1 to hit). This was our common sense approach to it. Likewise, we say a unit in a building is a -1 to hit with shooting, as they are in cover.

This just adds a different dynamic to the game We tend to only have garrisoned building which are watchtowers etc, i.e. things where you'd place a war machine, or shooters, or characters etc.

But terrain is very very important in this game.

You know what, I really did like the mystical terrain from warhammer. But only up to a point. The random rolls made them crap.

I think it should have had some of those rules, but that it was based on the traits of the model and that they were apparent.

Those forests on the other hand were just stupid. As were the rules.

I still rate 5th ed warhammer had the best building rules, barring the movement from one side to another in a building.

I see your building rules are house rules, not as per the book though.

12 pieces at a time is a helluva lot of terrain.

As said, most of the time we only put cannons and stuff in towers.

12 small pieces of terrain. Maybe a few buildings and 3 or 4 forests then. I dunno.

Just don't have a big wide open killing field in the middle

We use between 8 and 10 moderate sized pieces and clutter up the board as much as possible, no massive open fields

No, I want my toys to interact with my superb terrain, stuff must contribute fully to the games.

Anyhow, lets see how this thing plays out.

Cheers kids.
