Yeah, this has caused a fair amount of discussion on the various fora:

All the heated "hope they change this" talk is a bit of slamming the stable door way after the horse has bolted to the next farm. 2nd Ed has been in production for months. Text and layout is already done (according to the weekly Warlord studio reports), and its just photography that still needs to be finished before it prints.

really looking forward to the release. It's still an amazingly well balanced games and the "fixes" imho are minor.

Agreed. I am sure there will be some changes that I like, some missed opportunities, and some changes I dont like. (The Recce nerf will kill off my NMR list for good, but then the club had already outlawed it with their house rules...lol).

I enjoy 1st Ed despite the parts of the rules I dont like, and I am sure I will have a similar experience with 2nd Ed.

And if WW2 doesn't float your boat, and you would prefer sci-fi, its worth looking at Warlords "Beyond the Gates of Antares". It uses a few of the core Bolt Action mechanisms which create very interesting gameplay: notably the order dice mechanism and the pin/morale/order test mechanism. GoA is WAY more granular and detailed than BA, so is a bit more challenging to learn and plays a bit slower. Some might argue that as a result, two of BA's advantages (quick to learn, quick to play) have been lost to GoA. But it still feels immersive and keeps both (or all, if multiplayer) players active at all times. It has at its heart a great game engine, which can be used for playing all manner of sci-fi conflicts - would be easy enough to generate GoA stats for any units/background you chose.
