primaris hellblasters

Do you use these guys? Are they any good? Which plasma gun do you prefer.

They're heavy in points, so you can't take too many of them. Do they justify their cost?

Hellblasters are to this edition of Space Marines as grav centurion devastators were to the last. Just the regular rapid fire version with a reroll nearby, and preferably a reroll 1s to wound as well makes these guys just crazy good for their points.

Teamed up in Ultramarines with Rowboat Girlyman and a relic holding Ancient they are the sort of menace that few lists have easy answers to. In Dark Angels they're comparable thanks to their strategem and very strong banner as well, never mind reroll 1s if they just stand still meaning less need to always babysit them.

I play a small squad with just the regular incinerator. They are quite effective but do need support as they draw fire like moths to a flame. Having a chaplain or apothacary behind them does extend their life, but a dreadnought or other fire support does take the focus off them too leaving them free to clean up.

As Deathwatch, I can take them mixed in with my Intercessors, or even put them in to Deep Strike... both of those do wonders for making them stay on the table.

I personally prefer the Assault variant for units I will try to keep out of rapid fire range of other armies, but for my deep strike units I'll use the standard variant.

They're also great with Space Wolves and their outflank stratagem. A full unit of the rapid fire guys plus a bare bones wolf lord to give them reroll ones coming on from any table edge is nothing to be sniffed at.

As far as I can tell nobody here likes the heavy plasma incinerators.

Just for that I'm going to make a squad of heavy plasma guys. SOmebody needs to play them. Besides, they look so cool with those frustratingly difficult to assemble cables.

I love plasma gun fun. Join me. Of course, I don't care if one of my cheap as chips plasma gunners gets incinerated (there's always another guardsman after all).

Most effective would be running them as DA for the rerolling 1's to hit if standing still, which means they generally don't need a captain babysitting them.

Or at least its what the idea rolling around in.my head was.

Its quite effective, tried out a game this week with just a liuetenent, he wasnt necessary though, think i failed like 4 wounds with them the whole game.
It did make for a very static army though.

The -1 makes the overcharged plasma gun blow up on a 1 or a 2.

But you don't have to overcharge them.

Thats why i like the heavy plasma incinerator.
